To describe Neville Crichton’s career as unique hardly does it justice. The New Zealand born businessman and sportsman has a diverse range of careers, equally successful at running major automotive and property development companies, being a world class yachtsman and motor racing driver and as a builder of some of the world’s finest super yachts.

In 1985 Neville bought a small engineering company called Ateco and has turned it into Australasia’s largest independent car distributor. Ateco has handled some of the biggest car brands in the world and is presently responsible for Maserati in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa; RAM in Australia and New Zealand; LDV in Australia; plus, in New Zealand Ateco handles Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Jeep.

Alongside his automotive career, Neville was also integral in the creation of New Zealand’s superyacht industry. When he founded Alloy Yachts in 1982, the world’s superyacht spotlight fell firmly on New Zealand and New Zealand’s billion-dollar industry grew from there. Neville Crichton pioneered in-boom furling systems for super yachts and built the first carbon-fibre rig for superyachts.

Neville’s involvement in yachting is not confined to the Boardroom. He has won 174 blue water classic events including the Sydney-Hobart, the Fastnet, the Giraglia, Maxi World Championships and the Transpac on numerous occasions. He has also helped train and support many young aspiring New Zealand sailors who have gone on to win around the world and received a CNZM in 2012 for services to yachting and business.
